My name is Checkers (aka Gambino), and I'm only 1 year old.

In my short life, I've already learned what it feels like to be forgotten!

Not long ago, I had nobody.

I wandered the streets of Los Angeles alone, dodging cars, searching for scraps of food, and looking for the people I thought would come back for me. Every day, I waited.

But no one came.

Eventually, I was taken to a shelter. I was scared, confused, and heartbroken. I stopped eating. The light in my eyes faded. Day by day, I grew thinner and weaker until my name was placed on the euthanasia list.

I was running out of time.

A kind person opened their home and gave me a chance to live.

For the first time in what felt like forever, I felt safe. I started wagging my tail again. I learned that gentle hands can bring comfort. I learned that people can be kind.

But my foster home is only temporary.

And now I'm waiting again.

Not for the people who left me behind.

For the person who will never leave.

The person who will see more than a shelter dog. The person who will see a young dog who still believes in love despite everything he's been through.

I promise I'm worth it.

I'll greet you with a wagging tail every single day I'll make you laugh with my goofy toy tosses and playful spirit I'll happily join you on walks, adventures, and lazy days at home I know "sit" and "shake" I'm house-trained and professionally trained I love kids and get along well with other dogs I'll be your most loyal friend, your shadow, and your biggest fan

I'm about 52 pounds, but what I really carry is hope.

Hope that someone will choose me.

I don't need a perfect home!

I just need someone willing to give me the chance every dog deserves
